The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club offers one of the best youth shooting programs in New York State. The Rifle group meets on Thursdays at 4:30 and 5:30. If your child or student is interested in Archery, please see our Archery program link, they meet on Sundays at 3pm. Juniors pay just $5 to use the range. Students can bring their own 22 ammo or purchase it at the club for just $4 for a box of 50. Targets are provided at no cost. Thanks to a grant from the Friends of NRA , the club has competition level rifles that anyone can borrow at no aditionan cost. The club provides free targets, ear and eye protection and instruction.
The club is home of the Rough Riders Junior rifle team and is coached by Isac Anderson and advised by Peter Visconti both are NRA certified rifle instructors plus an experienced college and high school rifle coaches. Many of Visconti's former students have competed on the college level with scholarships. The club is proud that some our Junior shooters have also gone on to shoot in college and have received scholarships. The juniors also shoot in our NRA rifle matches held at our club and compete in the National Rifle League against other teams across the country. All matches and practices are held at the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club.
Former junor members have shot for the Plattsburgh State Univeristy Rifle Team that practices at our club. This is a great place to prepare and learn about the sport if your child is interested in shooting for Plattsburgh State or other colleges. Shooting is a life time sport with participants continuing to do well into their 80's. Its also a sport that involves concintration and a lot of thought and focus, all skills that will help your student succeed in school. Most successful shooters are also susscesful students.
Junior shooters that would like to receive instruction meet on Thursdays starting at 4:30 with the second relay starting at 5:30. Additional relays will be added if needed. Other youth activities at the club include 4-H Archery and the Beekmantown HS Rifle Team.
