The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun club offers an extensive Rifle program one of the best on the East Coast. The bulk of the activity occurs during the winter shooting seasons.
They welcome both experienced shooters as well as shooters who have never shot before. They have both an Adult and Junior shooting team and provide all the equipment needed to participate at no cost. Free instruction is available. The club hosts a series of NRA rifle matches throughout the winter that attracts top shooters from the area and are some of the best attended matches on the East Coast
Our Junior shooting team (The Junior Rough Riders) are coached by an experienced NRA instructor with coaching experience both on the high school and college level. Some of our Juniors have gone on to compete on the college level for NCAA Div I Schools and have earned scholarships.
The club is home to the Rough Riders Rifle Team. The team competes in the National Rifle League and has placed towards the top of the country and first place in the Northern Division & Eastern Conferance for the past five years. All matches are fired on the home range, making it very convenient to shoot in this league. The club has been fortunate to receive grants from the Friends of NRA for the last few years that has allowed the club to acquire a lot of shooting equipment including target rifles.
The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club is also the home of the Plattsburgh State Marksmanship Club’s rifle team. The compete in the MAC Rifle Conference against other Colleges and Universities in the northeast.
The Beakmantown HS Air Rifle Team also uses the Plattsburgh R&G as its home range. (A winter HS Sport) They practice on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
During the winter months, you can shoot rifle (22 caliber only) on Mondays, Tuesdays (6::00) Thursdays with 4:30, 5:30 & 6:30pm relays for juniors and most Saturdays at 11am. In the Summer, the range is open on Tuesdays at 6:00 and most Saturdays at 11am. Our hours are listed in detail on the bottom of the page.
